With the goal of becoming a middle income nation by 2030 the Nepalese government in 2017 engaged PEMANDU to facilitate a Strategic Workshop. The workshop was aimed at obtaining consensus from the Cabinet as well as key political parties on focus areas to grow the economy

Problem Statement

In 2017, Nepal was grappling with a challenging socio-economic landscape characterized by:

  • Constant political change disrupts implementation of socio-economic growth programmes
  • Commitment from public and private sector stakeholders not solidified
  • Lack of prioritisation of financial and human resources

Approach

Objective of the Workshop

  • The BFR Methodology© was introduced to accelerate the pace of execution of key development programs to get the maximum impact from investments.
  • Types of impact are those towards:
    • Fiscal health
    • Opportunities for the people
    • Political mileage

Workshop was also aimed at establishing commitment from the top-level of decision makers to prioritise effort and funding for identified projects that will come at a later stage

Seminar

  • Sharing the Malaysian experience and tools and platforms adopted in implementing the BFR Methodology since year 2009
  • Illustrating the rationale and impact of implementing each step of the methodology
  • Sharing the 6 Secrets of Transformational Leadership
  • In depth presentation on Introduction to Labs including rationale, framework, tools adopted, deliverables and timeline

Breakout Session

  • Identifying Nepal’s key challenges towards implementation
  • Open discussion on national target — “Become a prosperous middle-income nation by 2030”
  • Identifying economic areas that present the biggest gaps in delivery, and whether addressing these will contribute towards Nepal’s national target 
  • Utilising the BFR Methodology to obtain consensus on priority economic areas and adoption of BFR Methodology for labs
