Since 2012, Tanzania, in collaboration with PEMANDU, has pursued the goal of becoming a dynamic middle-income nation by 2025 through the adoption of the BFR methodology and the launch of the Big Results Now! (BRN) program. Over three years, 14 labs were conducted, prioritizing five Key Results Areas.

Problem Statement

In 2012, the government of Tanzania engaged PEMANDU to assist in delivering the country’s goal of becoming a dynamic middle-income nation by 2025.

To implement the aspirations of Tanzania Development Vision 2025 (TDV2025) first launched in 1999, the Tanzanian government adopted the BFR methodology and launched THE BIG RESULTS Now! (BRN) programme in 2012.

In the course of 3 years, a total of 14 labs were conducted for the BRN programme
A total of 5 Key Results Areas were prioritised
The National Key Results Areas were selected based on its highest relative impact in terms of projected number of beneficiaries, quality of life and feasibility

We aimed for

Agriculture: Expanded food production and marketing infrastructure
Water: Clean water access provided to close to 72% of the rural population
Energy: Added more than 200,000 electricity connections to both on-grid and off-grid projects
Transport: Year-on-year freight volume at the country’s largest city rose by 3.8%
Resource Mobilisation: Tripled share sales on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange

Impact Delivered

Key Outcomes

Since engaging PEMANDU in 2012, Tanzania has made substantial strides in economic growth. The country’s key economic indicators reflect favorable growth, with 2023 projections exceeding 5%. The agriculture sector, initially identified for development, is experiencing optimistic growth. Additionally, Tanzania has made notable progress in improving access to water supply, sanitation, and hygiene services, aligned with the initial target of clean water access.
