Dato’ Sri
Idris Jala

Our trailblazers are driving bold ideas and leading the way to transformative results.

Dato’ Sri Idris Jala

The Man
Behind BFR

In a decade of political and market shifts, Dato’ Sri Idris Jala remains a firm believer in transformational leadership, where there are no failures—only successes and lessons learned.

His approach has proven effective, with PEMANDU Associates continuously delivering Big Fast Results (BFR) across various sectors.

BFR
Experiences

Under Idris’ leadership, PEMANDU has been at the forefront of transformational change, working with governments and organisations globally to drive socio-economic outcomes.

Beyond measurable results, Idris takes pride in cultivating transformational leaders within client organisations and PEMANDU itself. As he emphasises, “there are no failures—only lessons learned.” This ethos has been instrumental in PEMANDU’s success, even as new challenges emerge in a rapidly changing global landscape. Looking forward, Idris is committed to harnessing these challenges to create even greater opportunities in the next decade.

Impactful
Achievements

Prior to founding PEMANDU, Idris built his career as a global turnaround expert. His early experiences in leadership roles, particularly in Malaysia’s government and private sector, honed his ability to lead transformative initiatives, setting the stage for his later success with BFR.

A Master’s graduate from Warwick University, Idris is recognized globally as a pioneer in organisational turnaround, receiving numerous awards for his visionary contributions to leadership and transformation.

BFR
in Action

At PEMANDU, we push ourselves—and each other—beyond what we think is possible. Our culture is built on a commitment to continuous improvement and a willingness to embrace discomfort in the pursuit of excellence.

The 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Belém, Brazil was never going to be “just another COP.” Held at the edge of the Amazon rainforest, one of the planet’s most vital carbon sinks, last year’s COP carried an unmistakable sense of urgency. The setting itself…

Malaysia’s Next Trade Frontier: Why Africa Matters Now

For decades, Malaysia’s outward growth has been anchored in familiar markets. ASEAN, China, the United States and selected developed economies have served us well, but in an increasingly uncertain world, concentration is no longer merely a commercial preference - it is a strategic risk.  Malaysia’s Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) totaled RM622.1 billion at the end of 2024,…

Inside The Making of a National Blueprint

On Writing What A Nation Will Read In the overall journey of the development and writing of national policy, there are, generally speaking, three phases: Phase 3 is undoubtedly the most important. Today, however, I want to focus on Phase 2. Phase 2 often gets forgotten. Without Phase 2, there is no foundation for Phase…

The Infrastructure That Pays for Itself: Monetising Performance in the Energy Transition

On a windy afternoon off the coast of Italy, a 200 MW wind farm hums steadily. Yet the real story is not in the spinning blades but in the invisible systems behind them measuring every avoided kilowatt-hour, verifying every moment of grid stability, and recording each decision that extends the asset’s life. In the traditional…
